License Renewal Due Dec. 31 - New Option Added

Posted over 4 years ago by Jay Metzger

North Dakota PAs,

Annual renewal for licensed PAs in North Dakota is due December 31. With the passage of our bill earlier this year, most PAs can renew completely online. Only those that do not fall into one of the three approved practice categories (practicing at a licensed health care facility, a facility with credentialing and privileging, or a physician-owned practice) need further paperwork completed.

One additional option was also just added by the ND Board of Medicine for those that are not currently practicing but wish to remain licensed. Examples include PAs in education, recent retirees that may practice again in the future, or PAs that are taking an extended break between positions. This new option was just posted in the last couple of days. If you are not currently practicing and choose this option, you just need to notify the Board if/when you start practicing again and which type of practice it falls under.

All the rules pertaining to the new PA laws were finalized earlier this month. You can find a link to the new laws and rules on our web page (tab on the left labeled "North Dakota PA Rules and Laws"). While the official law has been in effect since August, the final rules go into effect Jan. 1, 2020 (we have been operating under the law already, just formalized all the associated rules). There were no major changes with the rules, just clarifications and restating what is already in law.

Our Board is working on informational pamphlets that will help PAs, employers, and others better understand how the law affects them. Stay tuned and we will let you know when that is available.

Please let us know if you have any questions (NDAPAboard@gmail.com).

Thanks and have a Happy Holiday,
